SITTING DISEASE: A New Deadly Health Risk

Do you have a SITTING DISEASE? Are you the type of person who sits the whole day? Do you know that this habit is a big risk factor for DIABETES, HEART DISEASE and worst, PREMATURE DEATH? How many hours a day do you spend just sitting; at work, while travelling, eating or watching tv?

These are the usual reasons why you spend many, many hours sitting. Around 50 to 70 percent spend their time sitting while 20 to 35% spend their time watching tv.

According to a study done by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, people who spend so much time sitting and with no physical activity have a lower life expectancy.

By minimizing your sitting hours and being idle will prolong your life expectancy and lessen the risk of acquiring the health conditions mentioned above. Sitting for long hours is also a risk factor for CANCER OF THE COLON and BREAST.

Exercise will help increase insulin sensitivity of the body, decreases fats and cholesterol, lowers hormonal imbalance and inflammation.

Here are some tips to fight off sitting disease;

• Try standing up for longer periods of time. If you are in the office and of course, you are expected to be sitting, try to at least stand up every hour for a few minutes.

• Avoid playing video games and browsing the internet for long periods.

• Try to do some walking when you are not doing anything.

• You can try buying a Pedometer to be able to count your steps; increasing them daily.

 • Use the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.

The solution to fight off this “disease” may be simple but it will be very effective and beneficial to your health. This will prolong your life, make you lose weight and will also help you fight off stress because of the happy hormones your body gives out when you exercise.
